If you have not followed the recommended naming conventions and directory structures as per Plex then please do so before continuing here.
If you have done the above then the reason for this is that despite copying the files if plex does not have read or access rights to read files or folders as the user that Plex runs as then the content will not appear in the plexmediaserver when adding the library.
There are two ways around this.
Login to a Shell session as root.
1 - Change the rights.
For example, a localhost directory "plex_library" was added. First copy the media files across then run this command. (using your details)
chown plex -R /plex_library
Then add the library and you will see the content appear and the metadata start downloading.
2 - Change plexmediaserver to run as root.
Edit the /etc/default/plexmediaserver file
and change the line that reads.
Save and exit, [CTRL]+[X], Y, [ENTER]
Then restart plexmedia server.
service plexmediaserver restart
or reboot the pi
